We are Mark and Tracey Squires and we live in a place called Berrys Green, which is in Westerham, Kent. We have seven children between us, and we are currently owned by two Alaskan Malamutes, Cutter, Oska and one Black Labrador, Daisy who is a very fit 11 year old and who has no trouble keeping up with the Boys on their morning and evening walks, and helps to teach the boys right from wrong.
Mark has always had an interest in sled dogs from an early age, and in his early 20's after looking into which sled dog would most suit him at that time, opted for the Samoyed, knowing that his first love Alaskan Malamutes, would have to come later. So, first came Ben and then a year later he rehomed Holly, both from the Samont Kennel. Both were an absolute dream, and lived happy and healthy lives as pets until it was time to cross Rainbow Bridge aged 13 & 14 years old.
After researching breeders of Alaskan Malamutes, we fell in love with the Polarpaws pack, with great temperament and looks we were hooked! We put our names down for our first pup, and whilst waiting visited lots of shows and rallys to get our mally fix and to see what we were letting ourselves in for. After a year long wait, we finally got our first little bundle Oska, and at 12 weeks old went off to Aviemore to see what it was all about.
Mark fell in love with the working side, and was impatient to wait for Oska to reach a year, but luck was on our side, and whilst in Aviemore, Leah and Terry happened to mention that they were looking for a home for Cutter, who unfortunately couldn't stay with his current owners. As soon as we got home within that week we were on our way to visit Cutter, and on seeing him, fell in love with him straight away. Another week later and he was at home with us, Cutter and Oska hitting it off and being best of friends straight away.
This then gave Mark a real taste for the working side, and we managed to participate in a couple of rally's at the end of the season that held the M1 class. Cutter straight away fitted in and Mark was placed 5th in his first rally.
On the 17th July 2009 we added to our pack with two beautiful little girl Siberian Huskies, Sapphire and Pearl, special thanks to Amanda and Paul Keen of Nashanessen for letting us have these two little sweeties, full of mischief but priceless!!!!!!
